Our offices received this update on Rick Walker, villa class of 1967, from Brian Lawler, Seattle attorney and veteran trans-Apline runner.
Rick and Ann Walker of Rangeley Maine showed up on the doorstep of Brian & Anne Lawler on Bainbridge Island last week.
Exactly why someone would want to visit Western Washington in May remains a mystery. Moss worshipping?
Rick says he was looking for Alan Balladur...
Putting all his former classmates to shame, Brian Lawler, vsj class of 1968, has temporarily abandoned his Seattle law practice to race the Alps.
He's participating in the TransAlps run, which covers 180 miles and some 52,000 feet of elevation gain in eight days.
We, at the vsj blog, are unable to say why, but we commend Brian nonetheless.
Follow every creaky/heroic step at his web site here with his personal account here.
Finally, this photo shows Brian with a dark frothy 'training beverage' in what appears to be a large beer stein.
Should you need inspiration for your New Year's resolution, consider the work of Brian Lawler and Michael Childs. The two Villa alumni participated in the 2007 Gore-Tex Transalpine Run from Oberstdorf Germany to Latsch, Italy via Austria and Switzerland.
That's an eight-day alpine run in, through, and over the Alps for 160 miles, with a total of 42,000 feet elevation gain.
The competition was held this past September. (See here for details.)
A fuller account of Team Lawler's odyssey, with pictures, can be found here.
The photos here were taken, without permission, from Lawler's web site, which lists Childs and Lawler as 'ageless'. Lawler, the 1960s model, can be recalled here.
And who among us would argue with that description? Get up off the damn couch!
